A most comprehensive collection of the best specialization techniques I have never read about! "Specialization Training" is a must have for every serious bodybuilder.
Think about it - rarely will a bodybuilder develop proportionately in all aspects of muscle and symmetry on a regular routine that demands three sets of six to ten reps. If you care to find out, you will learn that most bodybuilders are regularly using some kind of specialization at any given time or the other – be it training a muscle part like the lower tricep or upper chest, be it full body parts like training for a bigger back, or be it just an overall mass gaining routine or program for getting ripped.
The bodybuilders who have outstanding physiques are almost solely the ones that specialize. The exceptions are the ones with irritatingly good genetics. I have a friend like that who has pecs that pop, and an abdomen with rippling abs. He works out a month in a year and lives on a diet of tea and cigarettes! But other than those that can build muscle on tea and cigarettes, the majority of us have no option but specialization training.
I found Nick Nilsson’s book to be an excellent read. With six different Specialization routines targeting strength gains, size gains and effective techniques to produce growth in lagging and stubborn body parts, "Specialization Training" is essential reading for every bodybuilder who is thinking of making some serious gains.
Nick has a very practical approach to training also. That means you know Nick has tried and tested all the techniques a number of times to know the difficulties you might face and how to work around them and adjust the exercises according to your needs. And, unless I am wrong, I think that almost all the techniques in the book are Nick’s own. At least I haven’t found any of them elsewhere.
But for one thing, all-inclusive though "Specialization Training" may seem, I am sure Nick could dig out and include some more programs into it. I know for sure that there are some more excellent training programs out there that would make lovely additions to an already excellent book. But that is up to Nick. Like I said, maybe the reason for Nick not including more programs is because he has decided to keep "Specialization Training" fully original or maybe there are other issues in using another trainer’s ideas.
The book remains an unfair bargain though. At nine dollars to have access to such routines is a steal, and at the 50% discount he offers it at for being a previous customer, it is practically illegal!

"Gluteus to the Maximus" is an unusual book. It is very rare that a fitness author should choose this area as his expertise. Actually, until I had read the testimonials to this book, I never even realized the fixation that many people – men especially – have on developing bigger and better butts.
Although I have always recognized the importance of overall body training, I rarely thought of my glutes and how they were developing when I exercised. I have always regarded glutes as a bodypart that develops on its own. As a bodybuilder, I have never heard any of my gym-mates look at someone else and remark something like "My God, I wish I had glutes like that." Nor have I overheard many comments from girls when I was in college.
But now I realize that there are, in fact, a lot of flat and small butts out there who desperately need to get better glutes. What could these people do until now? If you want to get bigger arms, there are dime-a-dozen books out there. Need to increase your bench? There are several programs that will promise to blast your poundage through the roof. But this is the first book I’ve seen and read that not only effectively targets the glutes, but will produce results so "big" that you will actually be able to see your butt growing by the week!
When I first read about this book, I wondered what amount of information the writer, Nick Nilsson, might have managed to dig up and put together to actually be able to write a book only on the glute muscle. I was shocked when I got my hands on a copy. Printed out the book would be over 400 pages long!
Loaded with exercises, programs and diets, the book guarantees results on even the most stubborn of butts. As Nick himself explains:
"Ttraining without nutrition will produce no results. Most people cannot develop their glutes because they never really target all the aspects of muscle growth together. When your nutrition and training are proper, they work synergistically to guarantee results."
A very important training aspect often overlooked, which is the reason why many trainees never manage to develop their muscles to maximum size, is stretching. If your glutes are never stretched then their tightness is what might be holding them back. Nick has incorporated a lot of stretching exercises in his book that most certainly will stretch your glute muscles, giving them the space they need to grow.
The programs, which have been divided for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced trainee, are specialized training techniques that will definitely produce results no matter how lacking your glutes are. Nick has even incorporated training techniques found only in his other book "Specialization Training." These specialization techniques, ranging from one day to three week specialization courses, will ensure success.
One thing I also need to make clear is that Nick’s book is about building your glutes by building your muscle. There are two ways you can get bigger glutes. Only one way will result in a fat and out of shape ass.
Don’t worry, though. Muscle mass doesn’t mean veins on your butt! It means firm buns as round as the sun.
If you are the sagging or flat butt type, or even if you already have reasonably well built glutes but are looking to carve some buns of steel then "Gluteus to the Maximus" is a must read for you.

A marvelous book on fat loss, "Metabolic Surge" by Nick Nilsson makes very interesting reading as well. Not a book for the faint of heart, "Metabolic Surge" is loaded with the most intense and effective techniques for fat loss you’ll ever find.
"Metabolic Surge" is about losing fat quickly. Are you smirking? You don’t believe fat loss can be accomplished fast. No, I am not talking of losing ten pounds over the weekend. I am a bodybuilder and I am not interested in losing muscle and water.
I am talking about hardcore results in thirty six days. I am talking about training with techniques so powerful you will be left spellbound as you watch your fat melt away into nothingness.
When Nick decided to write a book on fat loss he knew what he was doing. Why the words "fast" fat loss? If you are a bodybuilder with any experience in dieting and fat loss you should know that over a period of time the body adapts to anything. That means your best results will come mostly in the begining before your body realizes what you are doing!
I have tried ketonic diets that gave me great results for about two weeks. Then my metabolism slowed to a crawl and all my gains came to a screeching halt. I dropped my calories further only to realize that I had now slipped into muscle burning and fat storing mode!
My point is that if you want to keep your gains continuous, you are going to have to trick your body into letting the fat go, not fight a headlong battle against it. After all, you are up against thousands of years of evolution.
Hit, block, dodge, parry, sidestep, and duck. These are the guerilla techniques Nick will teach you in "Metabolic Surge" to keep your metabolism racing and switching in so many different directions, it will be an obvious victory for your fat loss battle. The key – and the part I like most about "Metabolic Surge" – is to keep the body guessing!
Now, if you have tried low intensity exercises for fat loss then you will know that they have their limitations too. Nick has included some amazing intensity training in the cardio section that will most definitely produce results. Complete down to the last detail, "Metabolic Surge" includes everything from nutrition, exercises, reps, to lesser known techniques like "Muscle Rounds," Lactic Acid Training and even overtraining in a controlled fashion.
The "Muscle Rounds" was a very interesting concept for me. Taking advantage of the body in a vulnerable stage, Nick uses "Muscle Rounds" to actually make quick muscle gains on a fat loss program. That’s evil Nick! You don’t need a major calorie deficit on this program. That is because Nick effectively manages to manipulate body hormones to keep the body in a permanent fat loss mode.
The only drawback to "Metabolic Surge" is that is a very intensive program. Though Nick has also included a preparatory section for the novice trainee I still don’t see no old ladies training on this program.
[Authors Note: a scaled-down version of the full Metabolic Surge program has been added since the review. This version is appropriate for a beginner to intermediate trainer.]
Also the low-carb approach makes an important feature in this program. I know from personal experience that the low-carb diet is a difficult act to follow. Some people may not even be able to do so for medical reasons. Nick has included a variation for the people who can’t follow the low-carb method, but I think this will still limit the results you might obtain compared to using the original program.
"Metabolic Surge" is the most excellent compilation of fat loss techniques I’ve ever come across. All the secrets jealously and unfairly guarded for decades by the best fat loss experts, namely bodybuilders, are now available in this one brilliant book. A must have for the bodybuilder who trains with intensity!

Weight loss product reviews:The Best Abdominal Exercises You've never heard of

One thing about Nick Nilsson's books is that you know they come with a guarantee card! No matter how advanced a trainee or how much of a 'know it all' you consider yourself, I'll bet a white elephant when backing my opinion that Nick knows something more - which fortunately he is willing to share.
In the case of "The Best Ab Exercises," it is not only a lot more, it is downright shocking. Till about a month ago, Nick had been very quiet for a while; I received no mails from him from over two months and I deduced from this lack of correspondence that he had altogether disappeared from the face of the earth. Then suddenly one day I get a mail from him and he say's 'I've got an ab book done, I'd like to know what you think.'
If you've read Nick's first book "The Best Exercises You've Never Heard Of" then you've probably realized that Nick holds some expertise in ab training. "The Best Exercises" hold some fantastic ab exercises, and I sort of expected his new ab book to be pretty good.
The book is not good. It's fantastic! There are fifty five exercises in there [editors note: the latest update brings this to 77 exercises] (for the upper abs, the intercostals and obliques, the lower abs and exercises that work everything at once!) and each and every one of them is brand new. As a matter of fact, I'll bet that white elephant again that you haven't ever found a single one of them elsewhere. You know why? Because they've been created completely new. They've been made from scratch.
Most of the exercises are contorted poses and I've been wondering where the inspiration or the ideas for the structure of the exercises came from. I've come up with two hypotheses.
I believe Nick might have spent those quiet months locked away in a torture chamber. His crime was definitely hideous for he was tortured by his captors; I have visions of lavish quantities of sulphuric acid being poured onto his bare chest and abdomen while his arms and legs were tied in odd positions and at very peculiar angles to his body.
As he twisted and writhed in pain he might have learnt new methods for contracting and stressing the abdominal area. He escaped a little over a month ago and, after suffering sleepless nights and nightmares bolting upright in the middle of the night clutching his abdomen while cold beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, he decided to compile this book to get the incubus out of his system. Plausible?
My second guess is that Nick is just plain crazy. He spends his entire life in the gym in an 'Einstein like daze' three fingers cupping his chin while the index finger taps his cheek slowly as he wonders 'What new whacko piece of freaky movement can I create that I will call an exercise?
Yes, the exercises are definitely freaky. In fact Nick himself warns the reader at the beginning that people might laugh at the trainee when he/she tries out these new exercises. Nick is definitely right on this one. I guarantee you people will be cracking up and clutching their sides as you go through the Best Abs routines. Talk about giving your buddies an ab workout as well!
"The Best Ab Exercises" includes video demonstrations for twenty four exercises [editors note: now 37] . I was laughing watching some of them. When you see Nick perform a 'Wall Walker Sissy Squat' or a 'Swiss Ball Rollup' you just wanna say 'Hell Nick just stop with the crazy poses!'
But the Ab exercises are only funny to look at. They are cruel when executed. I tried a few of my exercises and felt pain in muscles I never knew I had! 'Deadly' and 'lethal' are the words that best describe the ab exercises. "The Best Ab Exercises" is a name too tame for this book. I'd have titled it "The Ab Revolution."
What I also like about Nick's book is that it is very practical. You can tell he's worked on each on every exercise because he's included notes on common errors, tips and tricks, and photographs of himself performing the exercises in addition to detailed descriptions for every one of them.
Almost every one of the exercises includes a few variations considering individual needs and equipments constraints. Add the variations to the exercises and the total number of exercises in this book doubles!
The book includes about ten sample routines (Waist minimizer, core strength workouts, no equipment workouts, six-pack workouts, ab definition workouts, explosive core strength workouts, combat sports workouts, lower ab workouts, swissball workouts and serratus builders) which are also very good.
Drawbacks...some of the exercises require positioning of cables in the gym at odd angles; take for example the Nilsson crunches and the See-Saw crunches. Both these exercises require one cable pulled from the down end of a cross over machine and the other from the top end on the opposite side of the same machine. Positioning of the cables so that they provide optimum tension and free movement might be a little tricky.
Hell, in my gym the pin holder of the machine slides to the outside of the plates even if I try a simple cross over while working my chest. I bet that's two exercises I won't manage to perform in my gym!
My gym ain't got a Swiss ball either. So there go another couple of exercises involving the Swiss ball straight out the window. But really I'm just complaining. These are really the drawbacks of my gym not the ab book!
"The Best Ab Exercises" meanwhile goes into my collection of classics. It is definitely a collector's item. It is an absolute "must have".

Probably Nick Nilsson's best book yet "Best Exercises" is a most amazing collection of exercises that you absolutely must get your hands upon. True to its title, "The Best Exercises You've Never Heard Of," the exercises are not variations of exercises you've already tried in the gym. They are brand new exercises that somehow were missed when the world of bodybuilding was created. Can you imagine not having the bench press as a pectoral exercise? Can you imagine the amount of gains you would miss if you never worked the squat? Well if you haven't yet gotten your hands on "Best Exercises," you are cheating yourself out of immense gains.
When I first heard of "The Best Exercises" I must admit I was skeptical. I knew there would be some interesting information in it for sure, but would I really need it? If they were merely variations then would the book be worth it? I can now tell you my expectations of "The Best Exercises" were totally off the mark and I am glad for it, GLAD you hear!
Take, for example, the upper and inner chest, which was always a horribly lagging body part of mine. Like most bodybuilders, I've had few problems in developing my outer and lower chest but I've never managed to get good pec seperation and till a few months ago you could still count the ribs under my nonexistent upper chest.
I had searched for years for a good exercise with which I could hit my upper and inner pecs. Oh yes, I tried incline presses and V bar dips! They were good but not good enough. "The Best Exercises" gave me two brand new exercises to fit the purpose! With one of the exercises I am able to get an excellent contraction right in the region of my upper and inner pecs just below the neck. The other one stabs me with a sharp dart of delightful pain squarely in between my upper pec cleavage!
There are such exercises for every body part: triceps, traps, hamstrings, and wings, you name it. "The Best Exercises" gives you a brush to reach those "hard to reach" places when you step in for a shower. And though there is no radical training principle or bodybuilding fundamental involved, I cannot but help call Nick's work revolutionary. How Nick came up with those exercises, I don't know. One must really need a "Hannibal Lecter" like twisted brain to do so!
To add to this every exercise has tips and tricks, on the difficuilties you might encounter, how to counter them, and make the exercise better. Show's that Nick worked the exercises in and out before compiling them into the book. I know the exercises are safe, therefore.
But for a few small glitches I would have rated "The Best Exercises" as a classic.
Yes, there are fifty three exercises in the book all right. But take it from me, you won't be able to use all of them. Actually, I can't use a number of them.
Let me explain why with an example. In my foolish youth years of bodybuilding, I overtrained my biceps with forced barbell curls to the extent of irreversibly injuring my left wrist. I have always had to use only dumbels for curls after that and have not touched a barbell now in over a year. Nick has included in "The Best Exercises," a beautiful exercise for the biceps but unfortunately it has to be performed with a barbell. So there goes one exercise out the window for me.
Fifty two more to go. "The Best Exercises" includes three exercises targeting the glutes and upper thighs. Now I have already big glutes and thighs. I have no interest in developing them further. So there go the next three out the window.
Now I'm down to forty nine.
As you work through the book, you might find you can't use some of the exercises for yourself because of your own personal reasons and limitations.
Though Nick has included between five and twelve exercises for every body part, there are two groups of muscles he did not touch. One was the forearms and the second was the neck. The neck especially is an area often overlooked by most bodybuilders. Most bodybuilders with tree-trunk-like necks haven't worked for them. They got them because of good genetics. What about the pencil necks? I am sure Nick could include an exercise or two for the neck and the forearms.
Otherwise, "The Best Exercises" is a book of sheer genius. A must have for every bodybuilder interested in the sport.

Eat Stop Eat has been an absolute revelation! After years of trying to follow all the generally accepted 'rules' for fat loss, inconsistent as they are, I found I had hit a plateau, or really a brick wall, where I felt I was doing all I 'should' be doing but just not getting the awesome results I'd like.

I remember the first thing I thought of when I heard about Eat Stop Eat was “there is no way I can do that. There is no way I can go 24 hours without eating”.
The other day I had cereal at 6:30 am and then a protein bar at 10:00 am and then I was absolutely starving at 11:30 am. How could I make it 24 hours?
Turns out, it’s pretty easy. My fasting days are my most productive. I am not as hungry today as I was that day after eating twice in the morning. I noticed that in the book you say that people make about 200 choices about food everyday, which I totally agree with. I could not believe how much free time I have now on my fasting days. The biggest problem I had on my first day of fasting was not that I was too hungry, but I was too bored. I was not sure what to do with all my time. I made sure the second time fasting that I had more planned that day.
Something else I have noticed is that I have an easier time focusing on work and I have more energy for working out than I thought I would have during my fasting days. I had a hard time getting focused on work after coming back from lunch. I often felt drowsy after lunch and would have difficulty reading and writing. On my fasting days there is no drowsy feeling.
Making the choice to not eat is easier than any other dieting plan I have tried. I have found it easier to fast then to not order what I want every time I go to a restaurant or making my self go to the gym and work out hard. Fasting is one statement I make at the beginning of the day “I am not eating today” and the rest is easy.
This is my second fast and I am looking forward to my third so I can get more done at work again. This book has really changed how I look at my desire to eat and what is necessary for my body. I look forward to fasting to be apart of my life from now on.

This sounds like an excellent short-term solution. Especially good for dropping those last few pounds. The biggest advantage of something like this is that it gives solid, easy-to-follow meal plans with healthy foods. No "diet shakes" and single kinds of food to eat. I've lost 70 pounds of fat on my own over the past three years, and I'm at the point where I could use some diet-planning help. Give me a decent meal plan, and I'll follow it. With the examples given on this website, I could make my own! :-) By the way: On the first comment made about this article, Mary Crawford said that food isn't addictive. This isn't true. I myself am a recovering food addict. Any pleasurable sensation can cause an addiction, and food is definitely on that list. Food addictions have many of the effects of other addictions: Feelings of guilt and shame, hiding to consume the substance (food in this case), feeling very unhappy when all the substance (food) has been consumed, being told to "use a little willpower, won't ya?", low self-esteem coming from the associated problems (weight gain and health issues, in this case)... The list goes on. The part I hate the most is that people will just say "It's simple! The solution to your problem is to eat less. If you ate less, you wouldn't be fat!" Their ignorance really shows in those statements. The thing is, diets won't work unless the person realises they have a food addiction. Most people I have talked to who have shown signs of addiction refused to believe it at first, and I had to disprove every one of their rationales for their overeating. I don't blame them at all; I was the same a few years ago, and the reasons they gave were the very reasons I had used. "It would be a waste of food... I'm just weak... I bought it, I'm going to eat it... There are starving children in Africa... But it's so tasty... I don't have this very often..." The list goes on.I have found that throwing tasty food away in the sink and running water over it is a great step in feeling empowered. What I recommend is to do a search for "Overeaters Anonymous". I have dropped a dress size in the fist eleven days and will continue for another 11. PLEEEEZE remember all you knockers that it is only for 11 days and if you don't learn anything after that you deserve the title !!!! Katie I bought this diet yesterday and today is my first day on. I am very excited about it as I have tried so many diets and programs that just dont seem to work for me. I found it funny that people were offended by the term idiot in the diet title. If you read what the diet is about, you can see that it is idiot proof in that it tells you what to eat. With other diets that tell you to eat a "sensible meal", Like what? This takes all the guess work out for you. I also found it funny that the reviews at the begining were comparing it to a low carb diet, which it does also not seem to be. There are carbs in the diet and fruit and vegetables. In reality I picked a bad week to start the plan, but did not want to delay any longer (I have a party/lunch that I have to attend this weekend which falls on my fruit and veggie day. I am hoping that there will be salad there as I dont want to cheat)> Someone else had posted the question of what do you do for your 3 days off? I dont plan on going hog wild or anything but would like some idea of what other people have done. Any help would be great. I will post my progress at the end of the 11 days. :-)

HI - I did this diet for about 2 months and lost 20 lbs (I'm about to restart it on Monday) It was the easiest diet I've ever done - although the food DOES get repititious, I needed a little break....don't worry about your cheat days, eat normally, it's important in order to "trick" your metabolism and start losing again the next cycle, yes, you'll gain back a couple pounds during those cheat days, but it's just water weight,it's gone again after a couple days back on the diet. The closer you get to your goal wieght, the slower the weight comes off, but for me, it did keep coming off just varied (8lbs, then 2, then 5, then 3...)there WAS a support forum on this sight which was AWSOME - lots of people on the diet sharing experiences, tips, recipies, unfortunately, someone ruined it for the rest of us and Jim was forced to chut it down.....I definately recommend this diet to everyone who asks me what I did to lose so much!

I bought the diet today as I have already been on a diet for a week (lost 6lbs on my own) and wanted to add some spice to what I was already doing. The information is straight forward and to the point about dieting and excersizing.... there is no magic cure. I was sceptical though about the 9lbs in 11days but for 27.00 what the heck. I just got done cooking my meals for tomorrow and I am actually very excited about getting started but a little nervous as I want to be sure not to over eat. I will follow this plan strictly for the next 11 days and let you know how it goes.

Let me just add that Weight Loss 4 Idiots (yeah the Idiots makes me kinda cringe..) has fantastic advice on how to stay slim once you lose the weight. It is the first diet that I really feel like I could stick to and its also the first diet that I can get excited about doing.

I have been doing Weight loss 4 Idiots for a month and a half now and let me tell you all......it is FANTASTIC. I am never hungry and have more energy than I have ever had in my entire life. I have lost 18 lbs with 22 more to go. Piece of Cake!! Pardon the punn..but it is. As far as going back and changing my habits to my old way of eating, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Habit is a funny thing.If you enjoy the habit and you feel great when you do the habit, then you stick with it. Also , I have found that I have become quite creative with these food selections.
Well, I hope this helps anyone considering this diet It is the best gift I ever gave to myself.

I Love it! I am a competative triathlete and have a few extra pounds I had to lose. Nothing seemed to work as my body was always looking for food to replace the work out. I never, for one moment believed the 9lb loss but I liked the setup of the short term, easy to follow diet. This is not a long term thing - good for a few sessions and then your body needs to stabelize before starting again. I lost weight very easily (12lbs) and kept it off for months now. I am going to do another 2 sessions to lose a bit more.. Again, good as short term only as per their advertising - they explain that very well. And I enjoyed the food! Hi Stella,I used low cholestrol butter to cook my omlette, but thats just becuase I love cooking with it. I honsetly don't think it matters but it pays to try and go for lighter oil or butter. BTW I am on cheat day 3 of third session.30Lb down, WOOOHOOO!! I don't even think of it as a diet anymore, its changed the way I eat and the way I view food. To think of all the crap I let myself ingest before. For me it given me control over my body, who knew common sense could be so GREAT!!! I had a 2 month span between my second session and third and still going strong...I exercise for 45minutes 5 days a week.
